Code Ownership Policy

The short version

Once a project is paid in full, everything we built for you is yours — source code, database, hosting and domain access, admin credentials, and documentation. No retainer required to keep running it, no dependency on us to move, modify, or hand it to another developer.

What full handover includes

  • The complete source code repository, transferred to a repository under your account
  • Database schema and data, with admin-level access credentials
  • Hosting and domain access (or transfer instructions, for the free hosting/domain periods included in your plan)
  • Any admin panel, dashboard or client portal access built as part of the project
  • Written notes on how the system is structured, so another developer can pick it up

When ownership transfers

Under the Copyright Act, 1957, authorship of custom-built work sits with us as it's being built. On receipt of full and final payment, we assign all intellectual property rights in the delivered work to you — this is written into every project agreement, not left implicit. Before full payment, the work remains ours; this is standard practice and protects both sides during an active engagement.

What we retain

We keep the right to reuse general-purpose components, internal tools, and know-how that aren't specific to your business — the same way any engineering team builds on patterns across projects. We also retain the right to list completed work in our portfolio unless you ask us in writing to keep it private, which we'll always honor.

Retainers and ongoing work

Optional monthly maintenance or AI-automation management fees cover work we continue to do for you — they are never a mechanism to withhold access to what you already own. If you cancel a retainer, you keep everything already delivered; you simply stop receiving the ongoing service tied to that fee.
